crocheted newborn baby set.

ALHUMDULILLAH, the crocheted baby set that i was making using the pattern of mint green set from ravelry was a success. The pattern can be found here.

I made a few changes to it,

* instead of elastic bands i used a crocheted drawstring.
* folded and stitched the top crocheted few lines of the pant for the drawstring to go through.
* crocheted using two different colours.
* didn't add the edging of the cap because it was not suitable for a boy instead added a plain sc edging.

easy iftar recipes - hyderabadi dahi bade

This is a favorite indian delicacy, very easily found in almost all indian food joints in the month of Ramadaan. It is a dish consisting of fried gramflour balls soaked in yogurt.

Ingredients:
for the batter:
1 cup gramflour (besan)
1 tsp ginger and garlic paste
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp chopped cilantro/coriander leaves
1 1/2 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt or more according to taste
oil for frying
for the liquid yogurt:
400gms yogurt
1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste
1 tbsp chopped cilantro/coriander leaves
for tadka/seasoning:
1 tsp mustard seeds (rye)
3 or 4 dried red chillies
2 tbsp oil

Method:
In a deep serving bowl, add the yogurt, ginger garlic paste, salt and chopped coriander. Now dissolve the yogurt with water about 2 cups or more till you get the right consistency. The right consistency is neither too watery or nor too thick. It should be well enough to soak the fried gramflour balls in. Keep aside.
Now for the batter, in another bowl, add all the ingredients except the oil and dilute with a little water. The batter should not be watery, it should be thick but smooth. To check if the consistency is right, take a tbsp and dip it into the batter, lift up and slowly pour it back in, if the batter slides slowly and smoothly of the tbsp then its the right consistency, INSHAALLAH.
Now in a shallow frying pan, heat oil to deep fry the balls. *Take 1 tbsp batter and slowly pour the batter into the heated oil till it forms a small 1 inch circle**, repeat from * to ** beside the former circle. Leave some gap in between so that the gramflour balls don't stick together. Flip with the help of a knife or spatula. Be careful with the oil. A batch of atleast five gramflour balls can be fried at one time. The gramflour balls will puff if they are made right. Fry the balls till golden brown on both sides and add them directly to the prepared liquid yogurt. Don't overfill the liquid yogurt. The extra fried gramflour balls can be eaten even without being soaked. Now for the tadka/seasoning, in a small pan, heat 2 tbsp oil, crackle the mustard seeds and then add the dried red chillies. Remove from heat as soon as the chillies change colour and add directly over the prepared dahi bade and serve.

easy iftar recipes - bread pakoda

MASHAALLAH, this snack is very delicious and here's the recipe.........

Bread pakodas:

Ingredients:
1 loaf of bread (sliced)
1 cup water

(for filling):
3 medium sized chicken breasts (boiled)
1/2 cup sliced olives
1 cup feta cheese
1 tsp chilli sauce
1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste
black pepper and salt to taste

Method:
In a mixer, mix all the ingredients of filling (except feta cheese) till combined together. Now add the feta cheese and spin it in the mixer for just a few seconds so that the cheese chunks are still visible. Remove the filling into a bowl/plate.

In another bowl (it should be wide enough to dip a bread slice) take some water and add a pinch of salt to it. Dip the bread slice in the water and press the slice between your palms to remove the excess water. Now add the filling about 1 tbsp in the center of the bread slice and fold it in (as shown in the video at the end) to make it into an oval-shaped ball.

Keep the Pakodas/balls in a plate to air dry for a few minutes. Deep fry the bread pakodas till golden brown.

A beautiful HADITH about Ramadaan.

Ibn 'Abbas (Radhi ALLAHU Anhu) reported that ALLAH's Messenger (SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) was the most generous of people in charity, but he was generous to the utmost in the month of Ramadan. Gabriel would meet him every year during the month of Ramadan until it ended, and ALLAH's Messenger (SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) recited to him the Qur'an; and when Gabriel met him ALLAH's Messenger (SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) was most generous in giving charity like the blowing wind.

A beautiful HADITH about making effort.

Sayyidina Abu Huraira (Radhi ALLAHU Anhu) reported that the Prophet (SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) said,
“If a man removes a difficulty out of a Muslim’s worldly difficulties then ALLAH will remove from him a difficulty of the difficulties on the day of resurrection and if anyone makes it easy for a hard-pressed in this world then ALLAH will make it easy for him in this world and the next, and if anyone conceals a Muslim’s faults in this world then ALLAH will conceal his faults in this world and the next. Indeed, ALLAH continues to help the slave as long as the slave continues to help his brother."

busy as a bee !

ALHUMDULILLAH, the past few weeks went very busy hence i was unable to update my blog. But now i have a list of interesting posts to publish, INSHAALLAH. Most of you who live where i live will be knowing about the summer festival thats going on here - global cultural fair by aramco, weekly fireworks, dolphin show, circus and interactive shows at the malls, etc. INSHAALLAH, i will be posting some of the event's pics/videos but for now here is some of my crochet work that i was busy in simultaneously. These are diamond shaped kiddy purses.

The back of the purses are made of normal hexagons which were made following no pattern, ALHUMDULILLAH. The flowery hexagons are crocheted using the pattern from colour in a simple life. i surfed the net for a simple bag strap but didn't find any so i simply crocheted a chain of desired length with two colors of yarn, turned, double crocheted all the way thru from the 4th chain and the mission for quick simple strap was completed, ALHUMDULILLAH.

A beautiful HADITH about death.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah (radhi ALLAHU Anhu): ALLAH’s Messenger (SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) said, “Do not wish for death, for the terror of the place whence one looks down is severe. crocheted door peephole cover

In between of experiencing nostalgia of leaving a residence and excitement of shifting to a new abode, ALHUMDULILLAH, i finally got time to blog. My crochet was hibernating for about a month or two. This week i started crocheting again, ALHUMDULILLAH. My first completed project of this week is a cover for door peephole. Inspired by my younger sister's idea, MASHAALLAH, i decided to make a crocheted rose cover for this door's peephole.

I crocheted the rose using two different coloured yarn together.

and tucked the rose on the door with a golden board pin just above the peephole. It could be slided sideways to peep out if someone's at the door. ALHUMDULILLAH, very convenient.

A beautiful HADITH relating to suicide.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet (SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) said, “None of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say: “O ALLAH! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me.’ ”

crocheted play cubes

I usually like to visit the toy section of a store (no i do not throw tantrums to buy them) but it reminds me of childhood days, the innocent desires to own a particular eyecatcher, the pleasure of seeing a new interesting toy. The baby toys aisle is the best. Play blocks are very common in those places but they are mostly made of soft fabric and have some cartoon faces or couple of alphabets on them. So, i decided to gift a handmade crocheted play cube to my baby niece (S3), MASHAALLAH. The plan was to make 5 cubes having all the letters individually of both Arabic and English on each side with a picture relating to the english letters. The result turned out good, ALHUMDULILLAH.

Heres the written pattern for the play cubes:
ch 13, sc in second ch from hk. sc in all the ch sp till the end.

Turn, ch 1, sc in all the sc sp from 1 st round till the last sc. Repeat from * to ** till 12 rows are formed.

Now with a different colour, join in any corner edge with a sl st. ch 2, 1 dc in same sp. now continue all the way around with 1 dc in each ch sp and 2 dc at the edges, join with a sl st in the top of the beginning ch 2. don't finish off.
start with ch 2, 1 dc at the corner edge and continue with 1 dc in each sp with 2 dc in the corners. join with a sl st at the top of the beginning ch 2 of this round. Finish off. Make 6 sides of the cube in this way.

Take a square block of hard sponge. Now placing the crocheted sides on this block, join the sides to each other with sc through all sides. you can embroider any design, alphabets or numbers on the crocheted sides before joining on the sponge block.

ALHUMDULILLAH, this is an original pattern and is under rights of mib trends. So, if you have to share please link back, do not copy, type and write any part of the pattern without written consent from mib trends.

day 7: craft your perfect day - 3kcbwday7 - 3kcbwwc (k&c blog week)

i imagine my perfect crafting day to be near the beach with gentle waves swifting smoothly through the sea, SUBHAANALLAH.

over-looking the sea, i glide my crochet hook through the yarn, birds flying by, school of fishes gliding about,

spending the morning there, i stroll to a shaded place tagging my yarn along with me, i sit under the shade of a mango tree,

with some snacks at hand,

hmmmm...... too oily.
plan change, lets switch it to some fruits,

thats the only much time going to be spend with the yarn,
with all that scenic beauty around, MASHAALLAH.

day 6: improving your skillset - 3kcbwday6 (k&c blog week)

SUBHAANALLAH, since the beginning of our lives till the end, we are in the process of learning. I don't think that i have mastered the art of crochet. But after learning the basics of crochet and having tried some patterns, i now want to learn knitting, INSHAALLAH. Once, i did try to knit a baby bootie but it looked more like a mitten. The thing i don't like about knitting is it unravels easily and if you are a beginner, it will take ages to figure out where it all began. I have never tried my hand at intarsia knitting. INSHAALLAH, the things that i want to try and improve my skills at, form a long list. Anyways, here are a few of them:
1. turkish crochet hat

2. squiggle crochet
3. filet crochet
4. wool-eater square/blanket
5. writing detailed original patterns.

day 4: a crocheter for all seasons - 3kcbwday4 (k&c blog week)

although where i live its usually warm and dry but the airconditioning abundant everywhere makes it feel the opposite, MASHAALLAH. i rarely give any importance to the weather for crocheting. As far as i can recollect,  granny sweater was the only project that i had to make uptill now according to the season.

It was cold at my granny's place.

My projects are often crocheted in curiousity to try out new techniques and patterns.

day 3: knitting or crochet hero-3KCBWDAY3 (k&c blog week)

i would like to thank ALLAH who gave flexibility in hands to work with, sight to observe and enjoy the diversity of colours, the sense to combine all these blessings into cherishing projects and people to help and inspire, ALHUMDULILLAH.
In regards to the topic for today - a year ago, i was away from the world of crochet, i did watch and admired the work of my aunts but never took interest in learning it. surfing through the net, i got interested in the crochet art.
After learning the crochet basics from here and there, i started to venture in search of more projects and writing my own patterns, ALHUMDULILLAH.
fruitful fusion has a lot of importance in inspiring me to write as a blogger and sharing my crochet work with the world. looking at her projects inspire me to try out new ones and mostly the projects i want to try, are there already started or completed, MASHAALLAH.
Now for a more award's day type of speech - ALHUMDULILLAH, i would like to thank my dad (who got loads of yarn for me whenever i wanted), my mom & elder sis (who encourage me), brother in law & younger sis (critiques), nieces (who act as models), MASHAALLAH.
Last and the least, i would like to thank myself. yay, meeee !!!!!!

day 1: colour lovers - 3KCBWDAY1 (k&c blog week)

Just for a second, lets ponder what it would be like if life was colourless. ALHUMDULILLAH, ALLAH gave us the sight, sense, and the ability to combine these colours to form beautiful results. Whereever we glance there are samples of colourful combinations, SubhaanALLAH.

i usually get inspired subconsciously by all the colours around me.
